History
Marco Thompson was born in Selbina during the middle of the war. While he was growing up, his parents were killed during an attack by a large number of beasts, mainly the goblins. This was at the age of seven, and the mayor of Selbina took Marco in and raised him until he was 15, when he decided to become an adventurer.
Marco then went to the Republic of Bastok, where it was quite different than what he was used to back in Selbina. Bastok is a city of modern technology, but the vast majority of adventurers had to use medieval weapons as well as gunpowder rifiles. The modern weapons were held only for the Musketeer Army, which happens to be the government's military.
Marco went over to the government and requested to become an adventurer. Adventurers were very important in Bastok, but they were the lowest rank out of any soldier. In fact, they weren't actually soldiers. If anything, they were hired mecenaries tied to a nation. This was fine to Marco however, and he took up the job. He then spent two years going on missions, taking side-jobs, and going to school to hone his skills. During these two years, he met four people on separate occasions.
Virgil Manning was the first out of the four, and he was also an adventurer, although he had a year on Marco. He and Marco often got the same mission and end up competing to who can get it done quicker, while at other times they teamed up on missions where they had to kill a tough enemy. However, they even competed on those as well. Then, they eventually started to compete on who could be a better and more efficent leader when handling groups. Most of all though, they were rivals at battling each other. Their harsh spars together has made Marco a strong duelist.
Sheya Ambrose was the second out of the four, also an adventurer, but with a higher rank within the Musketeer Army. She was highly skilled with a rifile, which would surprise (and scare) many. Sheya often served as the one who would break up the fights between Marco and Virgil, and she frequently was a flirt towards Marco, although her attention soon went to Eri Onibashi.
Yaoki Hotaru was the third out of the four, and she was a bard-in-training. How they met up was rather embarassing, seeing as how that Marco had a severe attraction to cat-women during the time. He flirted, then got ignored, then he decided to do the ultimate way to get her attention, which would be grabbing her butt. He then got slapped, punched and whacked on the side of the head after that, but they soon became friends just because Yaoki thought his persistence was charming. Yaoki often served as the rational thinker, as well as Marco's auto-correcter (She criticized him on everything).
Alliria Hitomi was the last out of the four, and was simply a cleric. She came from another nation with different rules, but all in all she just wanted to help people. Marco and Alliria met up when Marco was on a middle of a mission, and as stated before, she wanted to help. They became fast friends, and eventually started a relationship. As a side note, Alliria helped Marco hone his healing abilities.
Throughtout the two years, Marco has made a name for himself, and finally had a chance to become a soldier in the Musketeer Army. All he had to do was one more mission, which would be to confront, and capture/kill Lady Mephiles. Serving as his hardest mission yet, Marco requested that Eri, Virgil, Sheya, Yaoki, and Alliria came with him, which the President of Bastok allowed. They then went over to the Land of the Demons to stage an atack. This however, ended up being a disaster.
While they did meet Lady Mephiles, they instead were forced to fight her "special" bodyguards, the Ark Angels. The Ark Angels were powerful beings that represented the world's cruelist feelings. There were five in all, each being a different race, but each representing a different feeling. The Human Ark Angel represented Apathy, and he showed it when he rushed into battle, and the first person he striked at was Alliria, who was then badly hurt. While Marco and the rest of the team rushed in to stop the Human Ark Angel's rampage, the other Ark Angels attacked them all right after. This left the Human AA to strike the killing blow to Alliria. Enraged, Marco attacked the Human AA with all his skills, but he and the team was quickly defeated soon after Alliria took her last breath.
The team was then saved by the Bastokan Army, and was carried back in order to retreat. While the majority of the team eventually got back to their feet, Virgil and Marco fell into comas, with Virgil soon waking up first. Marco stayed in a coma for two months total, before waking up. Yaoki was the first to hear about this, and she quickly came to comfort Marco when he heard the confirmation of Alliria's death. Eri and Sheya together heard about the news of Marco's recovery and quickly came to comfort as well.
After months of coping, Marco finally decided to request an attack straight to the Ark Angel themselves. The President agreed to this, and he also called allowed the same team as before to battle. He then added two additional members to the team due to the fact that Alliria was dead, and Virgil was MIA. It was then stated that the Ark Angels were not at the Demon Lands, and this was the ultimate chance for Marco to have his payback.
Quickly heading there, the team confronted the Ark Angels on a floating fortress. They fought and were evenly matched, but the Ark Angels were slowly winning. It wasn't until Virgil came in from behind that the team turned the tides. The team eventually defeated the Ark Angels except for the Human Ark Angel, where Marco went toe-to-toe with on his own. During this climatic battle, the fortress began to fall. The team fled while Marco and the Human AA battled, and the fortress eventually collapsed on top of them. Marco lived, but the Human AA didn't.
Satisfied with his victory, Marco was able to return to his adventuring. His next step now was to take down Lady Mephiles. There was however, one problem.
The Human Ark Angel's body was never found.
